Schmuker's Show & Share

Welcome to Mrs. Schmuker's fourth grade blog! This blog is intended to be an extra source for communication and a way to access various assignments and papers that may not always make their way home. You can download weekly spelling lists, practice spelling tests, monthly reading project calendars and rubrics, math quiz review homework assignments, and study guides. The blog will be updated at least once a week!

Can you believe it's already the week of Thanksgiving? I sure can't! Due to the two-day week, there will not be a spelling list, brain buster, or newsletter this week.

Important note: There is a social studies quiz Tuesday.

Have a happy Thanksgiving!

Week of November 10

Thank you to all the parents who attended conferences Thursday evening! We had 100% turn out and all were right on time! I'm looking forward to meeting with the rest of you today and tonight (Monday).

I hope you had a great three-day weekend as we head into a busy week in November. You will find the updated spelling lists, brain buster, and daily planner in their respective categories.

Please remember that your child should be reading from his/her historical fiction book each weeknight. On the calendar, the pages or number of pages should be recorded. Please do not record the number of minutes read. I will be checking the calendars sporadically through November and December to see that they are being updated and recorded accurately. All needed forms are in a downloadable format in the Monthly Reading Projects category.

Have a great week!

Week of November 3

posted by lschmuker | November 02, 2008 21:17

Election week is here! Students and adults alike are very excited and eager to learn who our next president will be. On Monday, Springview students will participate in a school-wide convention. Several fourth graders will read where candidates stand on issues such as education, health care, Iraq, and the environment. Our class also put together a slideshow to lyrics of, "God Bless the USA" by Lee Greenwood. On Tuesday, there will be a school-wide election where students will get to vote for their candidate! We'll see how the result compares to the actual country-wide result.

The first round of conferences are this Thursday evening from 5:30-8:00. There is NO SCHOOL on Friday. The next round of conferences are the following Monday, November 10, on which there is a half day.

This week's planner and spelling lists have been updated. The newsletter should be available by the end of the school day on Monday.

For our monthly genre reading projects, the months of November and December have been combined for historical fiction. The project is to write a reading letter, just like students do for their independent reading at school. All needed forms have been uploaded to the Monthly Reading Projects category of the blog! This information will be sent home Monday. Students already picked out their books Friday.

New to the blog is the Brain Buster category. Every week, students will have the OPTION to take home a challenging math problem, the Brain Buster, in order to earn more Schmuker Bucks. Please note that this is only optional! You'll find this week's in the Brain Buster category.
