Less than a month to go, and middle school math classes are working hard to accomplish what they need to in these final weeks of the school year!
6A is studying statistics. They are thinking about what is typical for a set of data, using mode, median, range, and mean to help them in that. They are also learning how to describe the shape of data, and they are making line plots, bar graphs, stem-and-leaf plots, and coordinate graphs to display data.
6B is closing out the year with "bits and pieces": they are learning how to add, subtract, multiply, and divide with fractions, decimals, and percents. If you take one of them out for dinner, they should be able to figure out an appropriate tip to leave!
7th grade just finished learning about various ways to compare quantities: ratios, rates, scale factors, differences, unit rates, and so on. They are ending the year with a brief unit on symmetry.
8 Connected is learning about volume and surface area. They started with rectangular prisms, moved on to non-rectangular prisms, and are finishing out the unit with cylinders, spheres, and cones! They too will end the year with a brief unit on symmetry.
8 Algebra is learning about factoring quadratic equations and other expressions. They will end with a unit on solving systems.
In all of these, we see God's amazing creativity, control, and orderliness in the world of mathematics! He is awesome!!
