Who has made a difference in our world?

Ask an 8th grader to tell you about who has impacted our world and how!

The 8th graders are finishing out their ACS language arts careers with a research project. Each of them chose a person who was born before 1940 to research and write a paper on. Their paper includes both background information and how their person has made a difference in the world. Their choices include Beethoven, Mother Theresa, Al Capone, Crazy Horse, and Jackie Robinson. In addition to learning about their person and his/her place in history, the students are also learning the process of how to write a research paper. This includes such skills as thesis writing, bibliographies, writing notes and referencing them, and writing outlines.

So far, we are having a good time (as good a time as 8th graders can have in school a month before graduation) researching and learning. I, as their teacher, look forward to reading their finished papers and learning more about these famous people.
